Walter Leon Hall Sr., Postal Service retiree
Walter Leon Hall Sr., 65, of Millsboro, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. Walter began his journey on this earth March 22, 1947, in Lewes, Delaware. Walt was the first born of twin sons (brother, Joseph) to Edna Hall Harmon and Joseph (Joby) Johnson. Walt and his brother were raised by their maternal grandparents, Amos and Laura K. Hall.
Walt began his education at Harmon School and graduated from William C. Jason High School. He furthered his education by attending Delaware State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In addition, Walt served in the U. S. Army Artillery Division and completed a tour in Germany from 1966-68 and was discharged honorably.
Walt’s work experience began with (NCR) National Cash Register, as a purchasing agent, Townsends Inc, as a master machinist and as a federal employee with the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired.
On February 25, 1973, Walt was joined in holy matrimony to Betty Jane Johnson, who he lovingly referred to as “Babe.” From that union of 33 years were two children, Walter Jr. and Tanya. Walt along with his wife raised her nephew Kenneth Joynes and was a foster parent to numerous others. Walt had an easy-going, carefree spirit and was so easy to love.
Walt found great enjoyment traveling with his wife and spending time with his family members. He was very interested in his children’s and grandchildren’s plans, goals and achievements and loved them unconditionally. He also enjoyed various outdoor activities such as farming and hunting with his twin brother, Joseph and son, Walt Jr. Walt was also a member of the All-In-One Hunting Club.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Betty. Walter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he leaves a loving and devoted family to cherish his precious memories: his mother Edna Hall Harmon of Millsboro; SonWalter L. Hall Jr., (Serena) Millsboro; daughter Tanya Gibbs (Kimwuan) of Lewes; son Kenneth Joynes (Thayer) of Dover; sons Deon Brunskill (Brenda) and Raheim Brunskill of Laurel; his grandchildren, Elisha, Jalen, Jonathan, K.J., Kristina, Jaslene and Allen; twin brother Joseph Hall (Marilyn); sisters, Pamela Clark of Wilmington and Sherry McQuate of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Mosley (Charles) of Dover and Linda Hodge (Eugene) of Hammond, La.; five brothers-in-law, Sidney L. Murray (Annie Mae) of Cambridge, Md., Willie Johnson Jr. and Theodore Johnson of Newark, N.J. and Chris Johnson, Salisbury, Md.; three goddaughters, Cynthia Spencer of Baltimore, Md., LaToya Taylor of Millsboro and Megan Street of Atlanta, Ga. A dedicated nurse, Gloria Brown, provided care for dad faithfully and became one of the family.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, 30007 Cordrey Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m.
Pastor Colby Matlock will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the adjoining church cemetery.
