William H. Bryan, Little League honoree
William H. Bryan, 86, of Georgetown died suddenly Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes surrounded by his family. Bill was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Newark, N.J., to the late Paul and Beulah Bryan and moved to Georgetown in 1944.
After graduating from Georgetown High School, Bill served in the Korean War. When he returned home, he began his career with Delmarva Power & Light, and retired from the Indian River Power Plant in 1991 after 32 years.
Bill attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a 61-year member of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company. His greatest pleasure was the 52 years he spent volunteering with the Georgetown Little League. Bill took great pride in keeping the fields in perfect condition. In 2008, the Little League honored him by naming a field for him, The Bill Bryan Field. In 2006, Bill was selected as the International Little League Volunteer of the Year in a ceremony held at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
In 1956, Bill married Joan King and, in May, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Karen Bryan Peden (Trippi), and a son, Keith Bryan (Tracey). Bill is also survived by four special grandchildren, William Peden (Jessica), Bryan Peden (Ange), Brooke Murray (Chris) and Cory Bryan (Kristin), as well as four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Dorothy Conaway (Granville) of Georgetown; and a brother, Robert Byran of Millsboro, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at Calvary Baptist Church, 22860 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, with a time of visitation for family and friends after 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Union Cemetery.
