William R. Somers Sr., Army reservist
Mr. William R. Somers Sr., 81, of Millsboro passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.
Mr. Somers was born Feb. 12, 1937, in Crisfield, Md., to the late Melvin and Mary Dize Somers. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves National Guard after 28 years of service.
He loved auto racing, dirt track, crab derby, Baltimore Colts, Friday night football games at Sussex Tech and Shorebirds games. William also enjoyed the water, and was devoted to his children and friends. He also liked to have a refreshing beer from time to time, and also enjoyed hanging out at Rust’s Store.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine Somers, a son, William R. Somers Jr., and a daughter, Tara Somers all of Millsboro. He is also survived by two sisters, Mitzi Wheatly and Linda Abbott. He also leaves behind extended family members as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Oak Orchard Community Church, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro. Burial will follow at 2 p.m., with military honors at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help offset final expenses to Oak Orchard Community Church, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
