William Richard Slawter, DuPont retiree

William “Bill” Richard Slawter, 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Boothwyn, Pa., passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford.

He was born in Chester, Pa., April 28, 1947, son of the late William D. Slawter and the late Margaret (Sparks) Slawter.  He retired in 1999 from DuPont Company as a senior account executive after 33 years of service.

Bill loved spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and was loved by everyone that came into contact with him. He spent many happy days relaxing at Towers Beach. Bill and Mary wintered in Sunny Grove, Estero, Fla. He had a love of college football; he was an avid Penn State football fan. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Slawter.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary (Zebley) Slawter; two children, William R. Slawter Jr. and his wife Jessica of Kunkletown, Pa., and Kimberly A. Wisniewski and her husband Christopher of Millsboro; and seven grandchildren, Taylor Conner, Noah Conner, Zachary Slawter, Kaleb Slawter, Sarah Petzold, Samantha Petzold and Jonathan Petzold.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may gather after 11 a.m. Interment will be private.     

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Bill’s name to a charity of choice.
