Wilmington man faces charges after Georgetown traffic stop

A Wilmington man faces weapon charges following a traffic stop near Georgetown Jan. 24.

Police say they spotted a Ford Fusion speeding and swerving on Route 113 near Deer Forest Road at 4:33 a.m. and pulled the car over. The driver, Douglas McLean, 35, showed signs of impairment.

After administering field sobriety tests, McLean was arrested on driving under the influence. During a search of the car, police said they found a stolen 9 mm handgun, ammunition and about 2.3 grams of cocaine.

McLean was taken to Troop 4 and charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm while under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, and traffic charges.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $55,702 cash bond.
