The Little League fields on Holland Glade Road in Rehoboth Beach are packed Tuesday nights for the Womens Senior Softball League, bringing out former champions from recreation leagues, high school and even college to compete in a fun, relaxed but competitive atmosphere.
Players who have reached 45 years up to the ageless play in the seven-team league.
The Blue Herons, Delaware Diamonds, Alley Cats, Olivia Shore Sharks, Sea Gals, Revelation Rip Tide and Softball Rebels play seven-inning games where all 20 rostered players can bat and substitutes can pinch run when a teammate is tired after they hit. Home plate and first base are modified to prevent collisions, and the defense is allowed 11 in the field to cut down on individual player coverage. A team can only score five runs an inning, and a fifth-inning mercy rule is in effect when a team is ahead by 12 runs.
Aug. 27 found the Sea Gals defeating the Revelation Rip Tide 21-2, and the Softball Rebels pulled out a 4-1 victory over Olivia Shore Sharks.
The league schedule continues until Sept. 17.
