‘Hello, Dolly!’ to open at Clear Space June 28
“Hello, Dolly!” opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 28, at Clear Space Theatre in Rehoboth Beach.
Sponsored by Dave McCarthy & Associates, “Hello, Dolly!” follows life-loving matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi’s (Loraine Steinhoff) efforts to find a wife for crotchety half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder (Dan Carney).
Carney’s memories of the show go way back. He said, “When I learned this show was going to be part of our season, I immediately thought of my dad. He was always singing some tune or other, often from Broadway shows. This was one of his favorite shows; I just knew I had to be a part of this production.”
Carney said, “I’ve been familiar with this show ever since I can remember. These characters are like old friends, and I’m very comfortable walking in Vandergelder’s shoes. But despite that familiarity and comfort, assuming his curmudgeonly ways is also my biggest challenge: Personally, I’m almost the complete opposite!”
Steinhoff said, “I am so enjoying playing such a strong female character! I love her strength and wit, and her desire to help others and live life to its fullest. We need more people like her in our world today.”
Carney said, “When our audiences come to see ‘Hello, Dolly!’ they know exactly what to expect. And in that familiarity there is warmth and comfort. They are certain to leave smiling, and humming a song or two.”
Steinhoff said, “The audience will love the wonderful music and dancing and - of course - the touching and humorous story.”
“Hello, Dolly!” runs through Thursday, Aug. 29, on a rotating schedule with Clear Space’s two other summer repertory shows: “Mamma Mia!” and “The Wedding Singer.”
Musicals begin at 7:30 p.m., each Monday through Saturday evening. Tickets for all performances are $17 to $32.
