Coastal towns getting ready for Memorial Day weekend

Like householders getting ready for a party, Lewes and Rehoboth Beach - and Delaware's other coastal communities - are getting all spruced up and ready for the summer season that kicks off with the Memorial Day weekend.
At 7:15 Thursday morning, Rehoboth's public works employees were hauling wagonloads of lifeguard stands on to the beach, rows of benches were lined up and ready for Bandstand concerts and beach-cleaning machines were grooming the sand for sunbathers, profilers, volleyball players, football tossers and readers.
In Lewes, the orange plastic balls that define the swimming area along Lewes Beach have been anchored to the bottom and Lewes In Bloom volunteers have dug in and watered thousands of flowers in more than 100 planters and hanging baskets.
Meanwhile businesses are stocking up on merchandise, food and drink in anticipation of all the people looking for a change of pace from their everyday lives.
Here along the coast, we're happy to have them coming.
