Dogfish Burton Baton at Old Town Ale House in Ballard, Seattle

I love seeing local products in faraway places.  Most recently, I found Dogfish Head's Burton Baton Ale, made right in Milton, Delaware, as one of the featured brews on the table card at the Old Town Ale House in Ballard.  Ballard is one of Seattle's hip communities and the Old Town Ale House has the city's best fish and chips, in my humble opinion. The fish is northwest Pacific cod and thick pieces are coated with a panko bread crumb mixture that just gives just enough fried flavor and texture over the meaty hunks of fish for balanced perfection.  The dill-spiced fries make a nice accompaniment and it goes down well with Dogfish or some of its other worthy friends on the Old Town menu.

I've included a photo of the fish and chips and recommend a visit the next time you're in Seattle.

When you're digesting your meal, take a walk for a few blocks and visit the Corps of Engineers locks at Ballard where you can watch salmon making their spawning runs.  The fish climb a series of concrete steps to get from Puget Sound into the city's inland lakes and you can watch them through underwater windows.
