Strawberries, waves, fast boats, other remarkable things
I'm blown away by the strawberries that this season and Delaware farmers are growing. In the Magee Farms field at Wescoat's Corner, outside Lewes, I picked 14.5 pounds of berries in about 20 minutes over the weekend. The strawberries were hanging off the plants like clusters of grapes. They're beautiful, they're delicious. Over the weekend we ate cereal with strawberries, strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie, and we drank strawberry cider, strawberry daiquiries and strawberry martinis. Between strawberries and chicken, it was an all-Sussex weekend.
Out at Herring Point by the Navy jetty, in Cape Henlopen State Park on Memorial Day afternoon, it was a locals' surf festival. People of all ages were surfing, boogie boarding, board paddling, body surfing and skim boarding . Lots of smiles and laughter. Such a great scene seeing so many people outside and enjoying life. The park trails and the Junction and breakwater Trail between Lewes and Rehoboth were also alive with bicyclists, joggers and walkers.
We live in a great place to be outdoors.
