A touch of home in Seattle - Dogfish

A few weeks have passed since I returned from a family trip to Seattle. Between hiking on the magnificent trails of Olympic National Park - dwarfed and humbled by giant trees - and urban exploring in a vibrant downtown along the waterfront of Puget Sound, the memories are long.  So here are a few more photographs that capture a bit of the Pacific Northwest and some of the highlights that I would recommend to anyone contemplating a journey in that direction.

Of course, it's always fun to go to unusual places, and exciting to see touches of home when you're 3,500 miles away - in this case on the western edge of our continent.  That's why I was happy to see our friends at Dogfish well represented in the heart of a city that places high priority on craft beers and ales, regional wines, exceptional coffee and counter culture.

We spent one night on this trip in the Ace Hotel, at the corner of Wall and First, a perennial favorite for us on trips to see family in Seattle. Like so much in the Belltown section of Seattle, The Ace helps define hip. General Manager Amy is a wealth of information about the local area.  She turned us on to Rocco's pizza. (See below.)

Amy is a friend of singer/songwriter Chris Staples who is tight with Cara Fisher from Milford.  Cara nurses in Seattle and is a friend of our daughter Megan and her husband, Ross, who are also both nurses. Amy was amazed that we knew Chris and Cara.  Small world. So there you go - always connecting the dots.
