Trevor Aldred wins award for science fair project
April 18, 2011
Cape Henlopen High School sophomore Trevor Aldred has won a $150 award from Tidewater Utilities for his science-fair project, "Hot vs. Cold: The Laundry Quandary."
"Basically, I wanted to find a way people could save energy without changing a lot around their homes," Aldred said. He tested five clothing stains, including oil, wine, dirt and grass, washing the stained articles in hot and cold water.
Although hot water uses 90 percent more energy, Aldred said, hot-water washes did not clean significantly better.
