Donald G. Hein, worked on head boats

Donald G. Hein, 84, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Friday, May 6, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes in his wife's loving arms. He was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Paul and Mary (Pio) Hein.

Mr. Hein graduated from St. Luke's High School in Waldwick, N.J., and later attended University of Pittsburgh and Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. From 1952-60, he proudly served in U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Mr. Hein started working for the Wyckoff Public Works as a road superintendent from where he retired after 33 dedicated years of service. While residing in Wyckoff, N.J., Mr. Hein was a life member and a volunteer fireman for the local fire department and also served as a volunteer policeman. He participated in the township planning board and was a past president of the Wyckoff Lions Club. Mr. Hein received a Senate Resolution set forth by Senator McNamara for his three decades of dedication. After retiring to Lewes, he worked on the head boats at Fisherman's Wharf, something he immensely enjoyed. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach and American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.

During his leisure time, Mr. Hein loving riding his BMW motorcycle and fishing on the Delaware waters. He was a talented woodworker, who made many beautiful pieces for his family. Mr. Hein also enjoyed taking many trips with his lovely wife, Jackie, to their favorite place the Caribbean island of Martinique. Mr. Hein will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dear friend by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hein was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Lynette Hein; and a sister, Joan Hein-Kern. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 30 years, Jackie Hein; a beautiful daughter, Suzanne Hein-Cottle of Jersey City, N.J.; two stepdaughters: JoAnne Masso and her husband John of Laurel, and Janet Jones of Sho Low, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Lauren Cottle and her fiancé Damien Ross; a brother, Kenneth Paul Hein of Sarasota, Fla.; and two beautiful miniature black poodles, Amanda and Lily.

Graveside Service with military honors will be held Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
