Rehoboth Beach Main Street to close its doors

Rehoboth Beach Main Street is closing its doors next spring, handing off organization of its primary events to city officials by March 2017.

The city will take over Main Street’s major events, including the annual July 4 fireworks and the Christmas tree lighting.

Rehoboth Beach Main Street, established in 1996, worked to develop the resort's downtown area. “So many of Rehoboth Beach Main Street’s goals have been realized for the community, and the need for a Main Street program in the city of Rehoboth Beach has diminished due to the vibrancy of the downtown business district,” the organization said in a press release.

Main Street will move into its new building at 30½ Lake Ave. Monday, May 23, sharing the new space with the city parking department. The organization’s support staff will remain in place through March 2017, when its lease is up.

Main Street Executive Director Krys Johnson is leaving the organization to take a new post as Rehoboth Beach's communications specialist, and she will oversee the process of phasing out Main Street activities.
