George B. Simpson, active at Epworth

George B. Simpson, 84, of Rehoboth Beach, died with his loving family by his side Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Tuesday, April 12, 1932, in Dover, son of the late William and Mary (Wilson) Simpson.

As a young man, George spent his summers working on his Uncle George’s farm in Houston. He was a regular participant at the Delaware State Fair showing his prized cattle, and was active in FFA and 4-H. In 1950, George graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, where he was class president. He continued his education at The University of Delaware from which he graduated with his bachelor's degree in agriculture and education. During his time at U of D, George managed the bull barn on the college farm.

Following graduation, George started working in Dewey Beach where he would meet the love of his life, Paula, whom he would marry May 15, 1959. During this time, George owned the Wilson Boat Company, and founded and built Simpson’s Marina on Rodney Street in Dewey Beach, where he enjoyed teaching countless people to water ski. Staying busy at work, he was a partner in Breakwater Dredging Co. until 1966. He was also the owner and operator of Eastern Corporation in Federalsburg, Md. up until his retirement in 2001.

George was active in numerous organizations. He served as the president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Maryland. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach for over 50 years where he served on the board of trustees and as financial secretary. He was a member of the United Methodist Men, and served on the long range planning committee prior to the building of the present church on Holland Glade Road. George also planned, oversaw and funded the construction of the Oceanside Portico at Epworth Church.

George enjoyed solving problems and always did his best to help when there was a need. In retirement, he stayed busy with multiple projects, usually centered around the church or his daughter, Linda’s, Meadowsong Farm. George loved his family unconditionally, and he was dearly loved and greatly respected by them.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Delbert W. Simpson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Paula (Turek); his two daughters: Linda Simpson and her husband Wes Stack of Milton, and Susan Selph and her husband Troy of Milton; his two grandchildren: Maggie Thompson and her husband Josh of Milford, and Galen Selph of Milton; his great-grandson, George Owen Thompson; and his two sisters: Mary Ann Teller of Dover, and Jane Bethard and her husband Ken of Camden. He will also be greatly missed by extended family members, young and old.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m., at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
