New show by Delaware artist Julie Molyneux opens

At Peninsula Gallery in Lewes through May 25
May 5, 2011

Julie Molyneux of Lewes has been painting for 25 years and professionally since 2000. Her recent work depicts the shoreline, woods, marshlands and farms found locally. In her current show, Naturesways, she has again reflected her love of the local scenery and the joy it brings her. Her paintings will be on exhibit at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes until Wednesday, May 25.

A multiple award winner, she has been placed in regional and national shows in eight different states. In 2001 she was the recipient of a Professional Artist Fellowship given by the Delaware Division of the Arts and in 2002 was placed in the top 100 of the National Arts for the Parks competition.

Some would call her work photo-realistic, but Molyneux considers it to lie in the realms of romanticized realism. “While I may use photographic references, my intent is to paint an image that suggests more than the visual. I look to capture the voices of wind and water, the caress or the sting of the breeze, the scents of the seasons or tides," she says. "Painting local scenery is both a joy and a challenge. I have a few favorite places to go, and I appreciate the opportunity to see them in all weathers, seasons and hours.”

The Peninsula Gallery, located just across the canal bridge on Savannah Road. in Lewes, has represented Molyneux for 15 years. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.
