Save a buck or two and still eat well

August 25, 2016

You need a printed program to keep up with all the changes around here! Fortunately, The Rehoboth Foodie pledges every waking moment to keeping Beach Paper readers on the leading edge. So let’s get down to business.

There are a few wallet-friendly places out there that wow us with their menus. Pretty good casual sit-down dining can be had Panera Bread with its very own drive through. Say hi to the delightful manager Brooke Wells. This longtime Rehoboth restaurant maven keeps that place hummin’. Another semi-fast food joint that always seems to have a line is Chipotle Mexican Grill in Tanger Seaside. Get the chicken burrito with black beans, guac, the white rice, cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo and some of that spicy red sauce. You won’t need to eat again for a while.

The Cameron Brothers’ Grandpa(MAC) on Baltimore Avenue is all about mac ‘n’ cheese. And soon there will be two! (The Delmarva Dog is the order of the day.) On Rehoboth Avenue, Semra’s Mediterranean Grill cranks out authentic – and entirely house-made - gyros, kabobs and Semra’s grandmother’s own Turkish dishes. Start with their fresh babaghanouj, then move on to the Iskender platter. Semra’s rice is not to be believed. Trust me on this.

Modern Mixture is back with a vengeance with a ton of new menu items. Just hope that Leo is making those frozen sangrias! Just a few doors west, Pig & Fish Restaurant Company has lots of wallet-friendly goodies on the menu for lunch and dinner. I like the Thai barbecue sandwich and – when you can pry it out of the kitchen – the Peacemaker. Add a few drops of Tabasco - it’s like a bouncy castle in your mouth. In a good way, of course. Say hi to talented chef Brandon Sakelaridos. Yes, he IS old enough to sit at the bar.

Back downtown, the awesome foursome at America’s Pie is carving out a pizza niche all their own. Try the Brooklyn-style pie. And there’s a lot more stuff there than just pizza. You can’t bring up burgers without bringing up Five Guys. Made-to-order burgers are custom-built before your very eyes, wrapped in foil and then covered in an avalanche of hot fries. I like to get jalapeños, extra pickles and mustard. Certain people have been known to split a Kosher dog for dessert. We’ll just leave it at that….

Who wooda thought that Conch Island Key West Bar & Grill at 2nd and The Avenue would actually have so many must-gets on the menu!? RehobothFoodie pick hits include the conch fritters, the conch chowder, the KW Pink peel ‘n’ eats, the Blue Heaven Burger and … wait for it … the filet mignon. (Get the Mallory Square version with crabmeat.)

So many places, so little Beach Paper ink! But this will get you started and will serve as your printed program. Check back here every week to get the latest on everything edible here at the beach.
