Darrin Trimell Gibbs was born Jan. 31, 1986, in Lewes, to Darrin T. Taylor and Kelley Gibbs. He died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at the age of 30.
Darrin, affectionately known as "DJ," received his formal education at Phillip C. Showell Elementary, Selbyville Middle and Indian River High Schools. DJ was well mannered, very shy and funny. As the the oldest of the four kids, he was very protective of his siblings and loved ones, especially his mother.
As a youth, DJ trained in karate, gymnastics and played Pop Warner football. He also enjoyed playing his X-Box, playing with kids, especially his daughter and stepkids. DJ loved being the life of the party. He lived life to the fullest.
DJ was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Grace Taylor; one uncle, Allen Taylor; and his godmother, Elaine McCray.
He leaves to cherish great memories his mother, Kelley V. Sturgis of Millsboro; father, Darrin T. Taylor of Georgetown; daughter, Tonia N. Perkins of Selbyville; one sister, Martisha V. Allen (husband Anthony Allen) of Lewes; two brothers, Di'ondre D. Gibbs of Millsboro and Derrell D. Gibbs of Bethany; and maternal grandparents, James and Sherry Gibbs of Dagsboro. He also leaves to mourn five aunts, one uncle, one nephew, six nieces and a host of cousins; a very special friend, Tamika Tull of Berlin, Md., and Shelia Floyd, whom he also called "Mom."
Services will be Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m., at Pilgrim's Ministry of Deliverance, 25053 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown. Family and friends may call one hour prior for visitation and viewing. Interment will immediately follow at Zoar Golden Acres, Bishopville, Md. Pastor Andrew Sellers will officiate.
