Due to foul weather only predicted to get worse, Rehoboth Beach's annual Hometown Christmas Parade scheduled for Tuesday evening has been cancelled. There is no rain date.
Parade Chairman Dawn Lynch and Co-Chairman Leonard Tylecki made the difficult decision at about 1:30 p.m. "We checked with the National Weather Service folks in Mount Holly, New Jersey and they said steady rain is expected between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. when the parade would be forming and starting. We looked for a window in the radar to see if we might be able to squeeze it in but the cards just aren't in our favor this year," said Tylecki.
"The wind is also expected to pick up, straight out of the east, which we knew would be hard on floats and spectators. We don't want little children getting sick this close to Christmas. We appreciate all the efforts so many people made to get ready for tonight's parade and regret that the weather just isn't cooperating." Tylecki said about 105 units had signed up to be part of the parade.
