John B. ‘Jack’ Bolin, a Bunker Buster
John B. "Jack" Bolin, 72, of Milton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at his home. He was born Friday, July 21, 1944, in Wilmington, son of the late Arvid F. and Louise (Scott) Bolin.
Jack graduated from Claymont High School in 1963. He worked at DuPont's Edgemoor facility for 23 years, followed by 18 years at Rodel in Newark, from which he retired. Jack loved going to the beach and fishing with friends at Cape Henlopen State Park. He enjoyed volunteering as a "Bunker Buster" at Fort Miles at Cape Henlopen, where he truly loved restoring the bunkers.
Jack always wanted to help people, as evidenced by his help in the kitchen at the Milton CHEER Center, Clothing Our Kids, and knitting hats and scarves for the homeless. More than anything, however, Jack cherished the moments he spent with his adored family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and he will be genuinely missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Virginia "Ginny" Bolin of Milton; his children: John (Leanne) and Tommy (Lisa), both of Wilmington; his grandchildren: Chelsea, Tommy, Tyler, Andrew, Hailey, Nathan and Noah; his great-grandson, Liam; his brothers: Richard (Diane) of Milton, Mike (Karen) of Newark, Scott of Wilmington and Bill (Cheryl) of Wilmington; his sisters: Carol Birch (Dan) of Pennsylvania and Jane Billingsley of Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal canine companion Scooby.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 8, at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Jack's memory to the Bayhealth Cancer Institute, 640 South State St., Dover, DE 19901, or The Fort Miles Historical Association, 120 East Wild Rabbit Run, Lewes, DE 19958.
