Many of us are already aware of the dramatic impact of greenhouse gas emissions from LIVESTOCK’S LONG SHADOW, the UN FAO REPORT http://www.fao.org/docrep/010/a0701e/a0701e00.HTM. Now CNN, a major news organization, is broadcasting the alarm as well as the solution--GO VEGAN, SAVE THE PLANET--via an editorial by George C. Wang, M.D., Ph.D., on the CNN website. You can read the entire editorial here: http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/08/opinions/go-vegan-save-the-planet-wang/
Wang explains that policy changes have overlooked animal agriculture as a major contributor to the climate crisis and urges individuals to take responsibility for reducing GHG by choosing to leave meat off their plates. He examines dietary solutions concluding that a vegan diet is most effective for reducing the demand for animal agriculture, decreasing land clearing and reducing Greenhouse gas emissions.
He does not take lightly the challenges for many in making dietary change, but concludes “It is rare that a single choice of ours can have a broad and decisive impact on the climate crisis. We have a moral imperative to choose and advocate for plant-based diets for the health of our planet and the well-being and survival of generations to come.”
