Auction nets $170,000 for Beebe, Rehoboth Art League
A crowd of about 500 Beebe Medical Center and Rehoboth Art League supporters turned out for the 22nd Best of the Beach Art Auction June 11 in the circus-sized tent on the Route 24 Beebe Health Campus.
Beebe Medical Foundation Executive Director Alex Sydnor estimated that the event would net $170,000 which helps support general operations of Rehoboth Art League and specific purposes for the medical center.
Dr. Brian Costleigh, director of radiation oncology at Beebe's Tunnell Cancer Center, served as honorary chairman for this year's art auction and benefit. He said proceeds from would help with the purchase of a new linear accelerator for the cancer center. "This new accelerator will help us treat patients faster and with more pinpoint accuracy," said Costleigh during the event. "It will also allow us to use techniques not available on our old machine. The one we're getting is the latest and the greatest. Of course the other accelerator is only five years old and will remain in service. We'll be building a new vault next to the old one to accommodate the new machine."
The linear accelerators are at the core of Tunnell Cancer Center's radiation therapy for cancer.
The Best of the Beach Art Auction centers around a silent and live auction of art and other items produced and donated by Rehoboth Art League artists as well as other businesses throughout Delaware's Cape Region.
