Del Tech Owens Campus holds 49th Annual Commencement
Delaware Technical Community College President Dr. Mark T. Brainard addressed the students at the commencement. Brainard led rounds of applause from the graduates, thanking families and faculty for their support, recognizing the veterans, and recognizing the students who achieved academic excellence.

Jamin Adkins from Harbeson introduced the keynote speaker. Adkins was the president of the student body, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and graduated with honors, magna cum laude.
Major Gen. Carol A. Timmons delivered the keynote address. Timmons has been a member of the Delaware National Guard for nearly 40 years. Timmons earned her Army and Air Force pilot wings. She is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Joint Guard, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. She also holds an associate degree in applied science from Delaware Technical Community College. In her address Timmons used the words of Madonna, “Never Forget Your Dreams.”

Delaware Technical Community College held its 49th annual commencement at its Owens Campus in Georgetown May 16.
There were 690 academic awards conferred at the Owens Campus; 543 are associate degrees and eight of those are from the new associate of science program. There were 271 academic awards of excellence, and 63 students graduated summa cum laude and 15 students achieved a 4.0 grade point average. Sixty-five percent of the graduates were women and 30 percent of the graduates were minorities. The oldest graduate was 67 years old and the youngest was 19.
The keynote speaker was Major Gen. Carol A. Timmons, adjutant general of the Delaware National Guard. Timmons is also a graduate of Delaware Tech.
