David Boyd Jr., master diesel mechanic
David Boyd Jr., 75, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Bridgeville Monday, March 2, 1942, son of the late David and Sara (Stuart) Boyd.
Mr. Boyd was a graduate of Centerville High School in Centerville, Md., and a proud US Air Force veteran. He eloped with the love of his life, Helen Crew, and married at the home of the Rev. John Troder. Mr. Boyd was a master diesel mechanic who was self employed for many years. He was a maintenance manager for Onsite Construction Inc. at the time of his passing.
David's interests included antique trucks and trucking history, and he was an avid reader of Wheels of Time. He loved the road less traveled and exploring the countryside. Since he could fix anything, he always had many projects in progress. Mr. Boyd thrived on helping family and friends, and time spent with them were his most cherished moments. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and uncle, and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael (Mikey) Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen (Crew) Boyd; his son, David Boyd III and his wife Maria of Seaford; his daughters: Joan Neal and her husband Barry of Seaford, and Shelley Boyd of Bridgeville; his grandchildren: Megan Neal of Seaford, Trevor Neal of Reisterstown, Md., Hailey Penuel of Bridgeville, and Skye Lester and her husband Sam of Los Angeles, Calif.; his brother, Robert Boyd and his wife Kathy of Seaford; his sisters: Anita Booth and her husband David of Eads, Tenn., and Wanda Davis and her husband Brud of Bridgeville; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
