Film for Thought to screen ‘Gasland Part II’ Oct. 3

September 28, 2017

Film For Thought will present the documentary "Gasland Part II’ at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Lewes Public Library. This follow-up to Josh Fox's award-winning documentary feature "Gasland" continues to explore the controversial method of extracting natural gas and oil known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and argues how dangerous the process is and how pervasive the gas industry's influence on public policy has become.

The film shows how the stakes have been raised on all sides in one of the most divisive environmental issues facing the nation today. The film pierces prevailing myths by showing how and why fracked wells leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families and endangering the Earth's climate with methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. It also sheds light on the global consequences of fracking, as more and more countries are following the United States’ lead in drilling for gas.

With the increasing war on science along with the new administration’s cutback in the strength of the Environmental Protection Agency, “Gasland Part II” is an important wake-up call.

The film is just under two hours long. There will be a 15-minute intermission. For more information, email dezineguy@comcast.net or call 302-645-2733.
