Delaware in World War I exhibit opens at Archives in Dover

In observance of the centennial of the United States’ entry into World War I, the staff of the Delaware Public Archives, along with State Archivist Marz and Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock and special guest Sen. Thomas Carper, D-Delaware, opened an exhibition Nov. 27 detailing Delaware's role in World War I.

The Great War & The First State Exhibition, The USS Delaware Silver Gallery and a new, permanent installation of the original bell and nameplate from the USS Delaware battleship, that served the United States during World War I, include documents and artifacts pertaining to Delaware's role in World War I and Delawareans who served in that war.

Some 85 pieces of trench art from the World War I era are on display. Also in the exhibit is a portrait relating to the battleship USS Delaware, along with its entire 22-piece USS Silver Service plus the newly conserved 888-lb. bell and 350 nameplate from the battleship.
