Jean O. (Hoeger) Hewlett, loved showing dogs

December 13, 2017

Jean O. (Hoeger) Hewlett, born March 28, 1929, of Rehoboth Beach and Liverpool, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 with her daughter, Sari Hewlett-Pacheco, and her two grandchildren, Austin and Mikayla Pacheco, by her side. She was born in Buckshutem, N.J., daughter of the late Edward F. Peterson and Florence G. Hoeger-Peterson-Rosenberg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Hewlett, who passed away June 30, 2011.

Mrs. Hewlett retired from the State of Delaware, Department of Health and Social Services as a managment analyst in 1985 and moved to Rehoboth Beach. She was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Take the Lead and a strong supporter in the sport of dog shows. She loved various dog breeds, and owned a show dog she called Swagger (Border Collie) who was also by her side when she departed from this world. Jean enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. She went back and forth between her home in Delaware and her Texas home for many years. She would go to various dog shows, concerts, theater and other events.

Toward the middle of 2016 it was advised by her doctors that she not travel long distance as it could be detrimental to her health, so the show world came to visit her. She enjoyed having people over from the entertainment world, listening to them play their music, or simply to visit. Jean was always up for a celebration or party of any kind. Her other favorite thing to do was to eat out, and she enjoyed her favorite dish (alligator), from her favorite restaurant in Texas, Pappadeauxs. Other days were spent going to the beach with her grandkids, taking care of her home in Texas, cookouts, and sitting outside with the chickens, or watching the horses play. She loved hearing from her grandchild, Harley, and her daughter, Leslie, and the horse shows and things they were doing.

She is survived by her brother, Albert Rosenberg of Boerne, Texas; her children: daughter, Sari Hewlett-Pacheco and her husband Dorian of Liverpool, Texas and their children: Austin and Mikayla Pacheco; her son, David Hewlett and his wife Katie of Wilmington, and their children: Amanda and Christopher Hewlett; and her daughter, Leslie Hewlett-Toulson and her husband Tim of Monroeville, N.J., and their daughter, Harley Toulson.

A Memorial service will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, at 11 a.m.,Wednesday, March 28, 2018, where visitors may call starting at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
