William O. Dickerson Jr., Air Force retiree

William P. Dickerson Jr., 81, of Lewes, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.   He was born in Lewes Dec. 19, 1929, son of the late William P. Dickerson Sr. and Bessie C. Schmidt Dickerson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dickerson, in 1998.

Mr. Dickerson retired from the U.S. Air Force at the rank of staff sergeant  where he had served as a fire protection specialist throughout the continental United States, Europe, and Vietnam.  Following retirement he worked in the sheriff’s department in Media, Pa. prior to moving to Sussex County where he had worked for the Cape Henlopen School District, Beebe Medical Center and WGMD Radio.  He was a member of Post 28 American Legion.

He is survived by his son, William K. Dickerson and daughter Rhonda L. Dickerson both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepsons James J. Morgan of Centennial, Colo. and William Vanhorn of Manchester, N.H.; stepdaughter Robin Stewart of Londonderry, N.H.; a sister, Mary Frances Donavan of Lewes; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may begin visiting at 12:30 p.m., prior to services.

Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Route 1, Milton.
