Ceremony set March 29 for Delaware service members killed in Vietnam War

In memory of Delaware's 124 military casualties of the Vietnam War, a ceremony will take place at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 29, on The Circle in Georgetown. All veterans, families and friends are invited to participate. During 2017, the 50th anniversary of that war, President Donald Trump signed into law legislation designating March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day to commemorate those who served in Vietnam.

Vietnam Veterans of America Sussex County Chapter 1105 will sponsor this event.

There will be a Junior ROTC presentation of the colors. During the ceremony, the name, rank, branch of service and hometown of each of the fallen heroes will be read, and a wreath-laying ceremony will be held followed by playing of “Taps.” Special emphasis will be given to the 26 Sussex County dead during the ceremony.The Vietnam War dead from Sussex County are honored with a memorial monument adjacent to the Sussex County Courthouse on The Circle in Georgetown.

Chapter 1105 wishes to make this an annual event. It is requested that veterans wear their military regalia to pay respects to the brothers and sisters who gave the last full measure to ensure everyone’s rights and freedoms as United States citizens.
