Inga M. Ganaway, family matriarch
Inga M. Ganaway, 90, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Monday, May 21, 2018, surrounded by her family at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Saturday, May 28, 1927, in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., daughter of the late Robert L. and Inga A. Belsher.
Mrs. Ganaway was a graduate of Walton High School, Bronx, N.Y. It was in the Bronx that she wed the love of her life, Dr. James Rives Ganaway Sept. 3, 1950, at St. James Episcopal Church. Mrs. Ganaway dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family. She was a former Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher, a member of the Blue Hen Homemakers, the Bridge Club of Rockville, Md., Sussex County Republican Women's Club, Rolling Meadows Lunch Bunch, and All Saints' Episcopal Church. Mrs. Ganaway loved meeting and talking to people, traveling, shopping, cooking and sewing. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and was the consummate hostess, as evidenced by anyone fortunate enough to share a seat at her table. More than anything, Mrs. Ganaway treasured the moments spent with her cherished family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was loved by many, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and brother Earl, Mrs. Ganaway was preceded in death by her great-grandson, William Cameron Staab. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 67 years, Dr. James R. Ganaway; her amazing daughters: Gale (Rev. Dr. James White) of Lewes, Linda (Dr. Lawrence Barrett II) of Berlin, Md., and Cheryl (Charles Seaman) of Rehoboth Beach; her grandchildren who adored her: Rachael (W. Christopher Staab), Jerusha White, Heather (Tom Palazzo), Dr. Jason (Steph Barrett), Christopher Barrett, Ashley (Phil Tinker), Courtney (David Daniel), Lauren (Terese Hopper) and Kristen (Garrick Bodnar); and her great-grandchildren who further brightened her life: Delaney, Latham, Emma, Luca, Sophia, Mackenzie, Keagan, Emmalin, Lorelai, Dawson, Madison and Brock; and her lifelong best friend and "adopted" sister, Elizabeth Graham.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m., at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. A reception is to follow the services in the church hall. Interment will be private.
