John T. DeHaven Sr., enjoyed woodworking
John T. “Jack” DeHaven Sr., 93, of West Chester, Pa., died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Whiteman DeHaven. Born Aug. 31, 1924 in Lionville, Pa., he was the son of the late Issac M. DeHaven and the late Beaulah Agnes Miller DeHaven.
Jack lived in West Chester for most of his life. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and retired from the Operating Engineers Local 542. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II. They moved to Millsboro and resided there for 23 years before moving back to West Chester.
Jack enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening, beekeeping, bowling and later in life, woodworking.
He is survived by his children, Robert DeHaven (Nancy) of West Chester, Linda DeHaven (partner Robert Harshaw) of West Chester, John DeHaven Jr. (Barbara) of West Chester, and George DeHaven (JoAnn) of Coatesville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Bearline Moore and Betty Kilpatrick.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 North Church St., West Chester. Interment with military honors will be held in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, Pa.
