Lewes Beach an auto destination in 1930

September 26, 2018

This photograph from September of 1930 shows that then, as now, Lewes Beach and its public parking lot at the beach on Delaware Bay were popular destinations for drivers taking in the local scenery.

In those days, the parking lot at the end of Savannah Road fronted on a boardwalk that ran parallel to the bay. A pavilion and gazebo were also part of public amenities for people looking for a place to find shelter from sun and rain.
