Beatles documentary opens Jan. 4 at Cinema Art Theater

January 2, 2019

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater, starting Friday, Jan. 4,  will present “Deconstructing the Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour,” a thought-provoking documentary that explores the genesis of several of the Beatles’ most-cherished songs, presented by composer and internationally recognized Beatles expert Scott Freiman.

In 1967, the Beatles embarked on an ambitious project, writing and directing a one-hour film called “Magical Mystery Tour.” The music or the film is some of the Beatles' psychedelic best. In “Deconstructing The Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour,” Freiman delves into the creative process behind "The Fool on the Hill," "Blue Jay Way," "I Am The Walrus," and other selections from “Magical Mystery Tour.” He will also "deconstruct" other songs from the album, including "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Penny Lane," and "All You Need Is Love."

Freiman combines his love of the Beatles with his experience as a composer, producer and engineer to deliver unique lectures about the band’s creative process. He moves past the personalities of the four Beatles to uncover the reasons why their music continues to be loved by millions. His lectures have entertained audiences of musicians and non-musicians alike, from preteenagers to octogenarians. Those who have attended one of Scott's presentations will never listen to The Beatles or any other music the same way again.

Screening times are 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4; 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5; 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6; 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7; 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9; and 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.

The mission of the RBFS is promoting cinematic arts and providing education and cultural enrichment for the community. The film society sponsors ongoing screenings, special events, and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (Oct. 31-Nov. 10, 2019). The film society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
