George F. Hack, had broadcasting career
George F. Hack, 91, of Millsboro passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.
George was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 28,1927, to George and Anna Hack. He was the youngest of six children. Like many of the country’s Greatest Generation he joined the Navy during World War II and spent the majority of his service in the Pacific on the island of Guam as part of his beloved 136th Seabees.
Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Philadelphia and finished the education he put on hold to serve during the war. He met and married his wife Julia in 1948. They left Philadelphia, moved to York, Pa., where George began his long career in broadcasting, a career that eventually led to their settling on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1956.
In 1985 he and Julia retired in Millsboro, where he resided until 2017.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Eileen McGovern; five grandchildren, Sheila Dougherty, Mary Dougherty, Carla Kraus (Joseph Duke,) Michael Dougherty (Dana) and Patrick McGovern (Lisa); and three great-grandchildren, Kelsie, Joey and Braylin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Julia; his youngest daughter Diane Kraus and his grandson Ellis Kraus IV.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
