Gourmet sandwich shop opens

October 15, 2011

When Patty Jacobs moved to southern Delaware from the Philadelphia area she said she saw a need.

“I didn’t think there was anything like this in the area and people are definitely eating healthier, better foods these days,” Jacobs said. “So I wanted to open something where you could grab something to entertain or just to take for lunch.”

So Patty’s Gourmet shop was born.

Located on the corner at 517 S. Bedford St. in Georgetown, Jacobs said she has been pleased with the community’s reception to her sandwich shop and catering business, which offers epicurean items like mortadella sausage and quinoa salads in addition to classics such as chicken cheese steaks and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Opening for business the Friday before Hurricane Irene and then closing for the weekend because of the conditions, Jacobs said she is happy to celebrate the official opening with the welcome of so many members of the Georgetown business community.

Serving foods “from subs to the sublime” is the motto at Patty’s, and with her location in the county seat, Jacobs said, she hopes the community will remember her catering and entrée selection for more than just lunch.

“I’m open until 6 p.m., and I want people to know they can stop in after work to pick up something for dinner as well,” she said.

Patty’s Gourmet is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, delivery or catering call 302-253-8692.
