It is Woman Boater Wednesday!
Beverly Rosella, one of the owners of Freedom Boat Club Delaware, shared her experience that led her in to the world of boating! ?
"I’ve never really been a boater…I went boating and sailing with friends on occasion throughout the years but it’s not something that I was ever really exposed to all that much. About 8 years ago a recently ‘retired’ friend found himself in a second career as a Freedom Boat Club owner. We talked about the club many times over the years, and what a great concept it is and how much the members love it, but there wasn’t a club nearby to join OR to buy. We ended up buying one of the boats from his fleet, then proceeded to climb aboard on the North Shore of Long Island and pilot the boat through Long Island Sound, through Hell’s Gate, down the East River, under the bridges, along the New Jersey coastline, across the Delaware Bay and into the Roosevelt Inlet to her new home in Lewes. Hence my boating life began!
After we got tired of commuting for an extended (2nd) career in consulting, we decided to take the plunge and open our very own Freedom Boat Club here in Lewes, DE. A second club location in Long Neck soon followed.
What I love the most about being an owner of Freedom Boat Club is it gives me the opportunity to become a more active, contributing member of my community here in Lewes, and we get to meet and cater to happy people all day long and help to enable their fun and adventures on the water! I get to participate in a fun and growing circle of friends who gather together to enjoy life and meet new boating friends through our social events.
I’m still a bit timid in certain situations at the helm, but our training program and my learning through experience has been a tremendous boost to my journey to becoming a confident and competent ‘Wavefaring Woman’!"
