The Cape softball team could only muster one hit off Indian River pitcher Abby O’Shields, as the Lady Vikings fell 6-1 to the visiting Indians April 26. O’Shields struck out 15 Cape batters.
Junior shortstop Carlin Quinn got the only hit for the Vikings, slamming a double in the fourth inning to knock in Ryleigh Elliott for Cape’s lone score.
“Credit to Abby O’Shields for her 15 strikeouts,” said Cape head coach Shannon Timmons. “We didn’t make the necessary adjustments at the plate to be successful today. We need to regroup and get ready for CR, Sussex Tech and Dover next week. Carlin did have a nice double and our only RBI. Ryleigh scored our only run and was patient at the plate to draw the walk. They continue to be the highlights of our order.”
“Moving forward, I’m hoping that we will beat CR, Tech and Dover,” said Quinn. “They are important games to win to make it into the tournament, and I know the team, coaches and myself want to be there. If we just get our bats rolling like they were during the Central game, we should win these next few games.”
Cape defeated Sussex Central 14-13 April 9, picking up 17 hits.
The Vikings will face Caesar Rodney Tuesday, April 30, Sussex Tech Wednesday, May 1, and Dover Friday, May 3.
