Cruisin’ Tikis Rehoboth Bay to set sail mid-June

Partying on local sandbars is about to get more festive when Cruisin’ Tikis Rehoboth Bay sets sail mid-June.

Retired Coast Guard Captain Larry Sinkus and wife Patty purchased franchise rights to the new business after taking a ride on a tiki boat in Key West.

The boat, a 16-foot octagonal tiki bar on 55-gallon pressurized and sealed drums, will be manned by licensed captains for up to six passengers. “It’s like a driveable floating dock,” Larry said.

Two-hour tours will begin at 9 a.m., seven days a week, and longer cruises can be arranged. Patty said the tiki boat is perfect for bridal parties, families or friends who want to enjoy stress-free leisure time on the bay. “It’s easy, fun and flexible,” Patty said. “Why bar hop when you can hop on a bar?”

The boat is docked at Rehoboth Bay Marina in Dewey, and Patty said customer pick-ups at other locations may be possible. Customers can bring whatever they would like to eat or drink. Guests sign a release waiver and receive a brief safety tutorial before launching; life jackets and a fire extinguisher are on board.

Prices range from $375 to $400, or $70 to $75 per person depending on cruise time. “At 6 knots, or 5 miles an hour, you’re going nowhere fast,” Larry said. “The boat is the destination.”
