Tana L. Gilmore, committed to community

July 31, 2019

Tana L. Gilmore, 76, of Lewes passed away Friday, July 26, 2019, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford after fighting kidney disease for the past year with every ounce of her strength.  She was born April 14, 1943, in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of the late Dominic and Dora Caggiano.

Tana raised her family in Darien, Conn. There, she built a successful career in interior design and was co-owner of One-of-Kind Interiors in Norwalk, Conn.  Tana later transitioned to selling residential real estate, rising to vice president and manager of Country Living Associates in Darien.  She was committed to community service and was a member of the Darien Representative Town Meeting and president of the Darien Kiwanis Club. Tana relocated to Lewes in 2007.  Blessed with a strong commitment to community service, she served on the board of the Friends of Lewes Library, as a volunteer at Lewes Presbyterian Church Soup Ministry, as well as the Children's Beach House and Lewes in Bloom.  Tana also enjoyed a variety of classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, sponsored by the University of Delaware in Lewes.  Tana and her husband traveled widely, discovering her maternal roots in Sicily, as well as visiting many other European destinations.  Her large family and legion of friends will forever remember her love of family, spirit and zest for life.

Tana leaves behind her beloved husband of 57 years, Bernie Gilmore; her sons: Bernie Gilmore Jr. (Linda), Steve Gilmore (Gwen), and Chris Gilmore (Frescia); her nine grandchildren; her four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren; her sister; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Second Street, Lewes.  Interment will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

The Gilmore Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, lab staff, and others who cared for Tana at Beebe Healthcare.  We are blessed to have these angels among us.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tana's memory are suggested to Delaware Food Bank, 1040 Mattlind Way, Milford, DE  19963, or St. Jude  Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
