Miriam Lewis Tyson, retired legal secretary
Miriam Lewis (Blackwell) Tyson, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Christiana Hospital. She was born in Elmira, N.Y., Friday, Aug. 20, 1920, daughter of the late Laurence B. and Mildred Ellen (Lewis) Blackwell.
Mrs. Tyson attended George Washington University and Washington School for Secretaries in Washington, D.C. Her working years were spent as a legal secretary for various attorneys in Maryland and as a secretary at the University of Maryland. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, Md. and a member of the United Methodist Women, a Sunday school teacher and youth counselor. For many years, she served as secretary of the board for the Youth Resources Center for runaway youth in Hyattsville and furnished financial support for a young girl in Africa through ChildFund International.
After relocating to Delaware in 1990, Mrs. Tyson was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church of Rehoboth Beach, was a lay speaker and active in United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Tyson is survived by her husband of 69 years, Clifford Wayne Tyson of Rehoboth Beach, one daughter; Karen S. Kapusta of Clayton, NC, three sons; Wayne L. Tyson of Mesa, Ariz., Alan L. Tyson of Greenwood and Mark C. Tyson of Binghamton, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.
Burial will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
