Douglas Edward Cope, had a big heart

January 6, 2020

Douglas Edward Cope, 41, of Milton, formerly of Upper Darby, Pa., died Dec. 23, 2019, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a brave battle with Glioblastoma brain tumors.

Douglas graduated from Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, Pa., in 1996, where he made many lifelong friends. He also attended Delaware Technical Community College.

Doug will be remembered for his knowledge of movies and sports, especially his hometown Philly teams, the Eagles and the Phillies. He had the sweetest smile and a dry, witty sense of humor.  With his kind big heart, he always tried to go that extra step to help his family and friends.  Mr. Cope enjoyed his volunteered time at the SPCA.  Doug also enjoyed his many weekend visits to the Crooked Hammock in Lewes, where he made many friends.

Doug is survived and will be missed dearly by his parents, Ed and Carolyn Cope of Milton; his brother, Kyle Cope of Milton; his foster brother, Ryan; and Doug's son, Jake; as well as many relatives and friends. Doug is preceded in death by his brother, Gregory C. Cope.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Jan. 19, at noon, at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Friends may gather beginning at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Georgetown SPCA, 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947, or Cancer Support Community of Delaware, 4810 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.
