Paintiques Gallery will feature Karen McCune Apostolico Dec. 10
Karen McCune Apostolico's love of art began at an early age but was put on hold while she married and raised a family.
“When the kids were all in school I also went to school - and to work. I worked in advertising and marketing for a real estate company. When I was asked a couple of times to do simple illustrations for a couple of ads I was thrilled. It was just the encouragement that I needed. I immediately signed up for a commercial art course at the University of Delaware. While I enjoyed the illustration section of the course, the whole sign making, typesetting, logo drawing thing just seemed so, well, commercial. So, I signed up for Drawing I, offered in the Fine Arts Department. I was hooked.”
Apostolico’s choice of medium is acrylic. Being patience-challenged, she likes it mainly for its quick drying capabilities but also its color and forgiveness. She is a member of the Rehoboth Art League and until recently a member of the Cape Artists in Lewes.
Apostolico recently opened a small shop in Millsboro called Caroline's Cottage, where she features some of her artwork and another one of her passions: collecting antiques and good junk.
Paintiques Gallery, 20 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth Beach extends a public invitation for an artist's reception featuring Apostolico's work from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10. The event is part of the Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Rehoboth.
