Sussex Consortium welcomes new assistant principal
Love Creek Assistant Principal Wendy Harrington has been named assistant principal at the Sussex Consortium, where she originally began her teaching career.
“It’s always been in the back of my mind to return to the Consortium,” Harrington said.
A 1989 Cape High grad, Harrington said she thrives on the intensified team approach at the Consortium.
“You work so hard on a specific objective and when it happens - when the student has met the objective - it hits you in the heart,” Harrington said. “Even the smallest improvements are such celebrations and it’s very exciting to be a part of that.”
After earning her teaching degree at the University of Delaware, worked as a paraprofessional at the Consortium for several years while she worked toward her master’s degree in education at Delaware State University.
Harrington taught third grade at Shields Elementary before moving to Milton Elementary as a math specialist, a role she later assumed at H.O. Brittingham Elementary.
Consortium students were mainstreamed into classrooms at Shields and Milton elementaries, said Harrington, who was named Love Creek assistant principal in 2017.
“I still had that connection with Consortium students at Shields and Milton, but not at HOB,” she said. “When I came to Love Creek I was very excited because it’s a feeder school for the Consortium, so I was glad to be back in the loop with the program.”
