Millsboro rail crossing to be replaced
The Delmarva Central Railroad, with support from DelDOT’s railroad section, will replace the existing railroad crossing at Washington and Main streets in downtown Millsboro, install new railroad warning signals, perform sidewalk modifications in the area of the crossing and make improvements to existing drainage. The Millsboro Town Council approved 24-hour work to minimize the duration of the project, which is expected to take 11 days.
Work is scheduled from 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, until 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 12, pending weather conditions. Intermittent lane closures may occur after Oct. 12 to perform final work items.
While the crossing is closed, the following detours will be in place: Westbound – West State Street to Betts Pond Road onto Route 113 and eastbound – Thorogoods Road to Iron Branch back to Main Street. Detour signage will be posted.
Dewey planners host Sept. 25 public hearing
The Dewey Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will host a virtual public hearing and meeting at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25. A link to the meeting is available at www.townofdeweybeach.com. A public hearing will be held on a draft ordinance regarding floor area ratios and changes to use square footage instead of FAR for construction permitting for new construction and renovations, setbacks and other code issues. Members may possibly vote to make a recommendation on the draft ordinance.
Airport advisory committee to meet Sept. 23
The Delaware Coastal Airport Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the airport, 21769 Aviation Ave., Georgetown. The meeting is open to the public; attendees must wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
Rehoboth election winners to be sworn in Sept. 18
Mayor-elect Stan Mills and Commissioners-elect Patrick Gossett and Jay Lagree are scheduled to be sworn in during the Rehoboth Beach commissioner meeting at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18.
Other agenda items for the meeting include a discussion on gross floor area, a discussion on the permitting program for wireless communication facilities, a discussion on strategies addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, the establishment of a date for the Clear Space Theatre Company appeal, and committee and board appointments.

Putting Pain in its Place program set Sept. 17
Delaware Hospice will host Putting Pain in its Place, a virtual Lunch and Learn program set for 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17. Pain is one of the most universal experiences of people living with advanced-stage or terminal illness. From the swelling associated with congestive heart failure to the effects of a tumor, pain has many sources and shows its face in many ways. But few people are aware of a critical resource to help them get their pain under control: hospice/palliative care. At Delaware Hospice, the hospice/palliative care team works in partnership with a patient’s own doctor to improve a person’s well-being and quality of life. Lewes planners to meet Sept. 16
The Lewes Planning Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16. The group will discuss a floodplain fill ordinance and 5G wireless facilities. They will review the commission’s bylaws and discuss a joint resilience meeting. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.
First State Antique Tractor Club to meet Sept 15
The First State Antique Tractor Club will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Greenwood VFW, Governors Avenue and Mill Street, Greenwood. The 2020 tractor show has been canceled because of health concerns for members and guests. The club is now planning its June 2021 show and the annual tractor drive and picnic. CDC guidelines will be followed at this meeting; attendees are asked to wear face masks and maintain safe social distance of six feet apart. Light refreshments will be served. 14th RD Democratic Committee endorses Coons, Carney, Navarro
After listening to opposing candidates for each office, the 14th RD Democratic Committee recently voted unanimously to endorse Sen. Chris Coons, Gov. John Carney, and Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro for re-election.
“Delaware and the nation need the leadership Sen. Coons, Gov. Carney and Commissioner Navarro provide through their integrity, sound leadership, effectiveness, and dedication to social justice,” said 14th RD Chair Dick Byrne. The committee urges everyone to vote in the Sept. 15 primary election.
