Andy & Opie Kids Fishing Tournament slated Oct. 3 in Milton

September 26, 2020

The public is invited to join Techno Goober from 8 a.m to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, in Milton Memorial Park, 113 Union St., Milton, for a day of free fishing and fun during the annual Andy & Opie Kids Fishing Tournament. Free registration begins at 8 a.m.; fishing is from 9 a.m. till noon. All winners will be announced by 1 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signed at registration in order to participate.

Registration forms are available online this year, and organizers are encouraging participants to fill out forms prior to the event. To download the form, go to getkidshooked.com.

All children and parents must wear masks while walking around the park this year, due to COVID-19. Participants may remove masks while fishing in their socially distanced area.

Participants are asked to bring their own fishing rods and tackle. Free bait will be provided. Due to restrictions, organizers cannot serve hot dogs this year. The Frozen Farmer Ice Cream Truck and Grandpa Mac food trucks will be available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The age groups are 7 & under, 8-12 and 13-17, with boys’ and girls’ divisions. A fishing rod or tackle box will be provided at the end of the tournament to the first 300 registered children. Trophies for first, second and third place will be given to the winners of each age group in both boys’ and girls’ divisions for the longest fish caught between 9 a.m. and noon. Trophies will also be presented for the overall tournament champion, as well as a Goober’s Choice Award. The overall tournament winner will receive a custom Andy & Opie fishing rod crafted by local PC Rods, a $300 value.

This year's proceeds will be donated to the Lower Delaware Duffle Bag Project. This group’s volunteers create handmade duffle bags for children entering foster care in Sussex and Kent counties.
