An inexpensive upstate winter getaway in mid-20th century

The Francis Drake Motel was located at the intersection of Routes 13 and 40, a few miles south of Wilmington. Taking advantage of the winter rates and a visit to Longwood Gardens for the Christmas lights, or Winterthur for the winter foliage, would have made for an affordable overnight excursion. Heck, at those rates, you could splurge and book two nights!
