December 15, 2020

Signa M. Souder, 91, of Lewes, died peacefully of complications from Parkinson’s disease Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at The Moorings at Lewes.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Souder and her husband Glenn Rill of New Castle; her son John R. Souder and his longtime companion Victoria Satz of Milton, and her son Eric H. Souder of Annandale, Va.  She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 70 years, John W. Souder.

Mrs. Souder was born and raised in Lebanon, Pa. After high school she worked in the business office of the local Sears store. She and John were married in 1948. They moved to Delaware in 1950, first living in Georgetown and then in Midway.

Mrs. Souder was a full-time homemaker while her children were young, but then began working as a paraprofessional at Shields Elementary School in Lewes. At first she was a teacher’s aide and then spent many years running the school library. After her retirement, she was a volunteer for Read Aloud for over 20 years.

Mrs. Souder was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach and a member of the Unity Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as worthy matron of the Unity Chapter, and also served a term on the staff of the Grand Chapter of Delaware.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the skilled nursing unit at The Moorings of Lewes for the kind and compassionate care they provided Mrs. Souder during her time there.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, or Read Aloud Delaware, Sussex County Office, 108 North Bedford St., Georgetown, DE 19947.

Due to the pandemic, services will be private. The family hopes to hold a celebration of her life next year when we can gather to share our memories of her.
