Hockey 4 Haxton tournament goes outdoors for 2020
The annual Hockey 4 Haxton indoor field hockey tournament went outdoors for 2020 in Champions Stadium at Cape Henlopen High School.
This year’s event drew 16 teams and nearly 160 athletes from all over the state.
The tournament is held each year in memory of Amanda Haxton, raising money for Hockey 4 Haxton scholarships and for the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown.
The Class of 2021 scholarship winners are Riley Klopp and Maggie Dawson of Cape Henlopen High School. Riley will be attending Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., where she will be part of the field hockey program. Maggie will be moving on to to the University of Virginia.
Riley has been a member of Delaware Shore since 2012, while Maggie joined the program in 2011. Both athletes have been active as members of teams traveling to Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida for different events, winning championships with those team. They’ve also helped by teaching and coaching in different Delaware Shore programs, and becoming big sisters to the next generation of Delaware Shore athletes.
