Jenny Louise Lockwood Hoch, world traveler

Jenny Louise Lockwood Hoch, 96, of Lewes passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. 

She was born Nov. 10, 1924, and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., with family ties in Middletown and Paris, France.  She was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and the University of Delaware.

Jenny’s life was filled with great stories. She took her first trip to France at the age of 2 with her mother on a ship out of Philadelphia. Jenny was in Paris at the same time that Charles Lindbergh made his first transatlantic flight. She was bilingual, speaking French as easily as she did English, and also had an ear for Spanish and German.  Jenny travelled to France every 10 years following her first trip. She also travelled throughout Europe and parts of Asia.

A faithful wife to the late Harry L. Hoch, M.D., for 55 years, mother and homemaker, Jenny loved her family and friends fiercely. She had the social graces that can only be compared to those of Emily Post. She loved gardening, collected antiques and china. She lived life to the fullest, always happy and never complained.

Jenny is preceded in death by her father, George I. Lockwood, and mother, Louise M. Lockwood; husband, Harry L. Hoch, M.D. (Jerry); brother-in-law, John W. Hoch; and sister-in-law, Gwendolyn J. Hoch.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne Hoch Shahrabani; son-in-law David Shahrabani; two grandsons, Christopher Shahrabani and Patrick Shahrabani; a son, Harry L. Hoch Jr. and daughter-in-law Leslie Merriken Hoch.

A graveside service will be private. She will be buried next to Jerry, John, Gwen and near her parents at Old St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Middletown.
