American Legion Post 28 held an awards ceremony for the Cape Henlopen High School JROTC March 12, where they sponsored eight medals that were presented to the cadets.
“The post fed the cadets and took care of all of the arrangements,” said Cape JROTC senior army instructor Lt. Col. Ronald Erale. “The parents were absolutely delighted at the event.”
The Military Excellence Award was presented to Samuel Kerstetter. Jose Chavez-Mendez received the Scholastic Excellence Award. The Gold Medal of Merit went to Marina Santini, the Silver Medal of Merit went to Zoe Peters and the Bronze Medal of Merit was presented to Brogan Conley.
The Athletic Medal was presented to Camila Lascano. Daniela Sanchez-Hernandez received the Citizenship Medal. The Americanism Medal was presented to Emma Dominick.
Cadet Battalion Commander Colby Barbour, who assisted with the awards program, was previously awarded the Sons of the American Revolution Medal in October.
“We held the event at our normal Friday night dinner,” said Post 28 Commander Jim Beattie. ”The cadets deserved recognition, and we were happy to provide the opportunity for them to get it.”
